Girls Meet the Workforce Externship Program
Girls Inc. of Orange County’s Girls Meet the Workforce program is a FREE four-month job readiness opportunity for 9th through 12th grade. The program purpose is to help girls identify their career interest and prepare for today’s workforce. Girls learn intangible skills such as interpersonal communication, leadership, and networking as well as tangible skills such as navigating Microsoft Office, Google applications, and building LinkedIn profiles to name a few.
Girls Meet the Workforce is held on Zoom and in-person Development Days, where there are extensive career exploration within industries that are underrepresented by women such as STEM fields like Bio-engineering, Law, and Business.
The program’s four-week on-the-job experience is called an ‘externship’. This externship is for 11th grade girls who will gain critical work experience, many for the first time to step into a company work environment.

Program Elements
Participating girls receive up to 40 hours of preliminary training before placement with their host companies and mentors.
Following training, girls are matched with companies and accomplished female mentors within those workplaces that align with each girl’s career goals.
Focus areas include workplace communication, interviewing, building a positive social media presence, and more.

In 2023, GMTW offered 127 girls placements within local companies such as PepsiCo, Edwards Lifesciences, ADP and more.
In 2024, we aim to place 150 externs within local companies such as PepsiCo, ADP, and more.
